Jake has led the charge for low-income survivors of sexual assault in Arizona. He has a unique perspective on what makes our agencies successful, and what doesn't. Jake is committed to investing in and reforming our most important social service agencies and nonprofits. Whether it's creating a more accessible grant program for our communities most impactful nonprofits, or streamlining Pima County's government-led social services, Jake is dedicated to fixing our community's safety net.
Every day, Jake works closely with unsheltered survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Every day, Jake sees where we fail our homeless neighbors, and how we can do better for them. Pima County needs to take real and actionable steps towards rapid rehousing initiatives with tangible results. We need accountability, transparency, and efficacy. We don't need more vague and unenforceable legislation that will never actually reach those in need.
Healthcare is an extremely complex issue, but Jake has seen what happens when we lock people out of it. He envisions a future where Pima County invests in the health of our residents. Jake wants to champion things like free vaccination clinics, free health checkups for low-income residents, and ensuring that hospital patients understand their rights after medical treatment. Healthcare should be a human right. Jake Martin believes our government should see it that way too.
A small business founder and leader himself, Jake is very familiar with the unnecessary bureaucracy associated with business in our community. It shouldn't take a period of months to find permits to replace a window at your business, but it does. Jake is dedicated to finding out where these harmful policies are, and how to eliminate them. We should incentivize growth by making our businesses easier to run, not deter it by weighing them down.
We live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world. It's absolutely critical that we protect our shared future by investing in green practices and policies. As a candidate who does not take contributions from home-developers, PACs, or corporations, it's in my best interest to fight hard for our environment. I will strengthen zoning regulations to protect wildlife and natural habitats, advocate for robust enforcement and oversight of development projects, and promote smart growth strategies to minimize urban sprawl and preserve open spaces. Additionally, I am a strong advocate for solar subsidies to incentivize renewable energy adoption and county divestment from oil to align with our commitment to environmental sustainability.
In Pima County, our tenants deserve better. Jake has lived with abusive landlords in the past, and understands that the process to fight them is long, contrived, and difficult. For many working tenants, it's just too much to fight landlords and provide for their families. Jake will make it easier to report abuse by landlords, and ensure that leases can be broken immediately if a landlord is found to be taking advantage of their tenants. Jake will fight to ensure that our tenants have access to clean and safe housing, and that they have the right to easily report poor living conditions or harmful landlords.
